This tour explores the suburbs of Chiang Mai – a great way to discover the less-known highlights of the city. You will visit the ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, the former capital of the Lanna kingdom. It will give you an idea of the rich cultural history of Chiang Mai. Wiang Kum Kam was an influential city in the 13th century AD but was ultimately abandoned because of continuous flooding. Excavation and restoration of the ruins started in the mid-’80s and it is delightful to visit these ruins with an electric scooter, especially the ‘hidden’ ruins such as Wat Ku Padom and Wat Huanong, our favorite. After this, we ride along the Ping river banks and breathe the local atmosphere that makes Chiang Mai so special. Via a different route, we ride back to our starting point.
